sedimentary



breccia is from alluvial environments that is gravitational. It is found in bajadas, pro-graded fans and is poorly sorted.

conglomerate comes from glacial environments and is unsorted, unstratified, stridated and polished.




sandstone is found in fluvial (stream) lacustrine (lake) eolian (wind/desert plains) and strand (beach). is also called Quartzarentie.




shale. is smooth when you rub against teeth. comes from clay and is found in fluvial, lacustrine, paludial (swamp/marsh/bog), estuary or abbysal (deep marine/low energy)


















calcium carbonate and is fossiliferous. they are created in subllittoral, oscillating lagoonal waters. it is a chemically affected sedementary rock; inorganic chemical precipitate/biochemical with fossils.

rock gypsum is soft, can be scratched by a fingernal. deposits in sabkhas (back beach/stranded ocean) and playas (beaches). it is a chemically affected sedementary rock; inorganic chemical precipitate/biochemical with fossils.
